Rereading them as an adult I was amazed at the stuff I never even picked up on.īecause I was reading them for the story. That’s probably more up your alley.Īs I said, I read a lot of his books when I was younger. If you don’t think they can handle something like this, then check out this post on 20 Classic Children’s Books that Teach Valuable Lessons. There may be some advanced material in these books. What I will say is that you know your kid. I’m not telling you to give your kid a copy of Pet Cemetery (although that was the first Stephen King book I ever read, right around second grade). ![]() He writes about the epic battle between good and evil.Īnd in today’s world, these lessons are invaluable. ![]() The good guys who, through their flaws, show that it’s possible to persevere in uncertain circumstances. He’s also known for creating multidimensional protagonists. He’s known for writing gruesome scenes and grotesque villains. Stephen King is known for writing horror stories. The Hundred Secret Senses by Amy Tan5/31/2023 ![]() ![]() The Hundred Secret Senses is now one of my favorite Amy Tan novels, rivaled only by The Bonesetter's Daughter. ![]() ![]() She has also appeared on PBS in a short spot on encouraging children to write.Ĭurrently, she is the literary editor for West, Los Angeles Times' Sunday magazine. In addition, Tan has written two children's books: The Moon Lady (1992) and Sagwa, The Chinese Siamese Cat (1994), which was turned into an animated series airing on PBS. Her most recent book, Saving Fish From Drowning, explores the tribulations experienced by a group of people who disappear while on an art expedition into the jungles of Burma. She has written several other books, including The Kitchen God's Wife, The Hundred Secret Senses, and The Bonesetter's Daughter, and a collection of non-fiction essays entitled The Opposite of Fate: A Book of Musings. In 1993, Tan's adaptation of her most popular fiction work, The Joy Luck Club, became a commercially successful film.
